Introduction
OK POWER is a German eco-label managed by the Hamburg Institute which aims to promote transparency and protect consumers by issuing labels to energy products. Renewable energy documented with Guarantees of Origin (GO) and this label ensure that renewable sources adhere to requirements of OK POWER.
Objective
- Quality electricity from renewables: Electricity with differentiated green tariff and sourced 100% from renewables has been shown to be an additional contribution to the success of the energy transition. In addition, fair contract terms are an important requirement.
- Transparency: The certification is based on strict, uniform standards, along with full disclosure of the names of the power plants supplying the electricity. OK POWER is issued once a year, therefore proof of compliance must be submitted annually.
- Neutrality: OK POWER does not receive benefits from suppliers, advertising, or commissions.
- Trust: The nonprofit organization EnergieVision has been promoting environmental and consumer protection in the energy industry and energy transition for 20 years. Through OK POWER certification, a standards advisory committee of experts in the field of energy transition ensures trust in the goal of EnergieVision.
- Sustainability: OK POWER ensures consumers that a certified tariff will help expand and integrate renewable energy into the supply system, and also be fiscally irrelevant to nuclear and lignite core hard coal power plants.
OK POWER certification
Certification is valid for one year, with requirements as follows:
- Electricity 100% sourced from renewables such as hydro, biomass, solar, wind, geothermal, and sewage energy.
- Renewable energy product specification: A GO certificate is required.
- Sources of renewable energy supply: To incentivize new renewable energy power plants, suppliers are required to purchase at least 33% of their annual green power from new plants, with an age cap of eight years for hydro energy, four years for wind energy, five years for solar energy, four years for biomass, and eight years for geothermal energy. It excludes subsidized projects, nuclear, and coal-fired power plants.
- Equitable and transparent contract terms, such as no prepayment or minimum purchase quantity requirements.
Renewable energy certificate certified by OK POWER
OK POWER performs verification from renewable energy sources documented with a GO, which is the only renewable energy certificate that can be certified by OK POWER.
