PurismEV, a startup that's setting its sights on energy efficiency. Its product, AI energy efficiency system, addresses EV range anxiety by increasing vehicle range by 40% and extending lifetime by 2.3 times. It also introduces a Software as a Service (SaaS) model for retrofitting existing EV fleets, boosting operational efficiency.

In the race to electrify our roads, electric vehicles (EVs) promise a future that's not only greener but also more efficient. Why aren’t EVs everywhere yet? Because the battery is still the pain point as auto companies shift gears from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to EVs. Their cost remains a substantial barrier, as the core of the battery cell accounts for 30-40% of the total price of an electric vehicle. And its longevity and efficiency pose challenges to EV makers, too.

“Electric vehicle motors, influenced by the people driving habits, can experience a staggering 40% to 95% variation in battery energy conversion efficiency,” said PurismEV co-founder Gigi Huang. Such a vast discrepancy in performance directly impacts battery lifespan. The quest is to discover a means of extending battery range while minimizing potential cost burdens.

PurismEV, a startup that's setting its sights on energy efficiency, aims to tackle these very pain points. Their product, AI energy efficiency system, addresses EV range anxiety by increasing vehicle range by 40% and extending lifetime by 2.3 times. The systems enhance motor and battery efficiency based on the driving patterns for EV fleets, keeping the battery from degradation.

Fixing EV energy efficiency with AI: A Dive into PurismEV's solution

As EVs gain momentum on global roads, the inherent challenge of battery limitations remains a concern. The heart of the matter lies in the battery's capacity but also its efficiency. PurismEV’s energy efficiency system optimizes both the motor and battery, tailoring adjustments based on an individual's driving habits. It's a dynamic system that constantly recalibrates itself, ensuring optimal performance under varying conditions.

Consider a typical electric motor vehicle like the 'Gogoro', which on paper promises a range of 100 kilometers. In reality, most users only manage to achieve around 70 or 80 kilometers. This shortfall isn't just about the machine; it's also deeply tied to driving habits. The startup aims to push these boundaries, ensuring users get more mileage from every charge.

EV motors already outperform traditional internal combustion engines (ICE). An ICE typically converts up to 30% of the energy from its fuel into motion, whereas EV motors can range vastly from 40% to 90%. If EVs can be driven closer to that 90% efficiency mark, the difference in performance becomes transformative. That is what PurismEV attempts to achieve by maximizing dynamic adaptability.

In scenarios with varying traffic conditions, whether congested or clear, the vehicle automatically adjusts its performance. Unlike standard vehicles that feature a static 'eco mode', which generally slows response times, PurismEV offers multiple eco modes. The system determines which mode is best suited for the current driving state, adjusting throttle responses and speed accordingly. In essence, where a traditional system might deliver 30% power when the pedal is pressed halfway, PurismEV’s system might vary from time to time as it calculates the most efficient output for that specific scenario.

In addition, the system utilizes sensors to monitor the state of the motor, collecting critical data such as speed, acceleration, and specific motor information. The primary focus is on driver behavior and vehicle information, using road conditions as supplementary data. With PurismEV, when the accelerator is fully pressed, the system ensures the engine's power increases in a curve, not linearly, attaining speeds efficiently and effectively tailored to each vehicle. The system results in a whopping efficiency increase of 44.4%, making the EV future more promising and sustainable.

Being crazy fans of vehicles themselves, PurisimEV founders master the know-how

“I always have a passion for vehicles,” said Gigi Huang, the CEO and co-founder of PurisimEV. Graduating from Virginia Tech, Huang went to the United States for an advanced mechanical engineering program in the first place. Not only he can recite the car brands and new models backward and forwards, but also he modifies cars with his hands. In 2013, he as a freshman at the university, worked on a project for General Motors, which transformed the internal combustion engine into a hybrid electric engine. Later as a sophomore, he made an electric kart by himself.

Later on, Huang kept engaging in his interests, joining startups to work on battery development and automotive. That’s when Huang and Ming Chu, the COO and co-founder of PurisimEV came across. Chu was doing business development in the vehicle industry. While she was in the Eks Specialities, an automobile and motorcycle supplier in Taiwan, she found that the global EV makers all came to Taiwan to purchase the parts. Through this way, she got to make a lot of acquaintances with these global EV manufacturers.

Well aware of this ecosystem and the industry, Chu and Huang decided to join forces and found a company that would boost EV’s popularity. Their roadmap is anchored in data-driven innovation, ensuring vehicles are continuously optimized for user needs. By offering predictive acceleration during critical moments, PurismEV aims to enhance safety and save valuable time. Universal control from any seat position is another hallmark of their vision, making every passenger feel in command.

Beyond vehicles, PurismEV introduces a Software as a Service (SaaS) model for retrofitting existing EV fleets, boosting operational efficiency. They're also keen on integration with electric mobility services, expanding the reach of their smart EVs across various transportation platforms. In a nutshell, PurismEV's roadmap signals a boost to electric mobility, improving the driving experience and service integration for a sustainable future.
