EN

The latest results of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), the highest honor for corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance, were announced on 8th December. Taiwan has added four new companies to the list.

In the highly competitive "DJSI World" category, the 3 newly added top companies by market capitalization are Chinese technology giant Tencent Holdings, Swiss-based tobacco company Philip Morris International, and U.S. technology company ServiceNow. On the other hand, pharmaceutical giants Novartis, AstraZeneca, and Amgen have been deleted from the list.

Every year, the S&P Global conducts a Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) to identify companies with outstanding ESG performance. This year, a total of 13,000 companies were invited to undergo assessment, and only those ranking in the top 10% in each sector can be included in the DJSI World Index. The information technology sector has the highest representation at 27.9%, followed by healthcare at 21.1%, and financials at 11.5%. The real estate sector has the lowest representation at 1.9%.

In the year 2023, a total of 30 Taiwanese companies have been included in the DJSI World Index. Among the newcomers are industrial computer giant Advantech, major banking holding companies Taiwan Cooperative Financial Holdings, The Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank, and Chang Hwa Commercial Bank. Taiwan has added 4 new companies to the index this year which is less than the United States (7), Japan (6) and China (5). Notably, the AUO Corporation did not appear on the list this year.

Additionally, in the DJSI Emerging Market Index, Taiwan has a total of 29 companies listed this year. New entrants include Taiwan Cooperative Financial Holdings, Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank, and pharmaceutical company Oneness Biotech. Notably, last year's selected companies such as TSMC, China Steel, AUO, Innolux, and Wistron are not included in this year's list. In the global Index and emerging market index, without duplication, a total of 35 Taiwanese companies are listed. Among them, 24 companies are listed on both indices.

The DJSI adjusts every December and all changes are effective on December 18, 2023.
