South Korean wind power equipment giant CS Wind is expanding its investment in Vietnam, capitalizing on the geographic advantages of Long An Province in the Mekong Delta.
The company plans to build a new factory there to produce wind turbine towers and other large equipment, aiming for the largest global production capacity. The total investment amounts to $200 million, with initial production focused on exports to the global market.
CS Wind aims highest production capacity in the world
Under the agreement, CS Wind Vietnam will lease 50 hectares of industrial and service land in the Southeast Asia Industrial Park from Dong Tam Group, a major building materials company. This site will be used to manufacture onshore and offshore wind towers, transition pieces, monopiles, and other products.
Dong Tam Group estimates that the plant will be able to supply large equipment weighing between 500 and 4,000 tons, with an annual production capacity potentially reaching several tens of thousands of units. The equipment and raw materials for the initial phase of the factory will be transported via Long An International Port, with expected annual imports and exports ranging from 150,000 to 200,000 tons.
CS Wind established its first tower factory in Vietnam in 2003 and is one of the pioneers in local wind power equipment manufacturing. It is now a supplier to leading global wind turbine manufacturers such as Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Goldwind, and General Electric, with at least 13,000 wind towers in its track record.

Foreign investment in Long An Province doubled
In March 2024, CS Wind invested $80 million to expand its wind tower factory in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. This plant, covering 24 hectares, has an annual capacity of 360,000 tons, making it unmatched in the Southeast Asian market, and the diameter of offshore wind towers produced has increased from 8 meters to 10 meters.
According to Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country reached $20.52 billion in the first eight months of 2024, a 7% increase from the previous year. Long An Province attracted $579 million in foreign investment, double that of the same period last year. South Korean enterprises are among the top contributors, ranking among the top three out of 40 countries.
